06.14.2007 - "All that for a Feebas." - I may be the only person who feels that this is exactly the same as this.
The majority of the major company invites have stipulations attached to
them. There will also be a bit of an embargo on some of the information
until a month AFTER the show. This says something about Lowenstein's
legacy. We in the "enthusiast press" would like to remind you that
"enthusiast press" is code for "those we could not silence."
06.05.2007 - "We're back!"
- Well, having arrived back from A-Kon and into the arms of the
interweb, we bring a ton of pictures and very little real news. The
panel coverages from A-Kon will be up soon and all the pictures are up
in a smaller format. For those wondering, HERE IS SQUISHY'S MYSPACE PAGE.
In normal news: Nintendo announced a yellow DS Lite for their Pokemon
Center stores, and the big rumors are Assassin's Creed for the DS, and
a Disgaia game for the DS. Should be an interesting next few monthes.
05.29.2007 to 06.03.2007 - I forgot to mention it. But here is the direct link to our A-Kon 18 coverage. In large bold letters now:
AKON 18 COVERAGE!
05.30.2007 - "Something Silver, silver - Two
new colors of the Nintendo DS Lite have been announced in Japan. Those
two colors are a metallic pink and a silver color. Not bad; but not red
or green yet. Also, a new adventure game about insect murder was
announced and the third Pheonix Wright game will be bilingual in Japan.
Nice.
05.24.2007 - "We Has A Coverage"
- There you go! Locking down for the Fridayton of news. Here at DMG
Ice, we are all about going commando; thus we will not be covering the
Wii. We will be covering all the greatness of the portable sphere
though. So far, there has been an announcement by Capcom of Gyakuten
Saiban 5 (Ace Attourney V) for the Nintendo DS. More lawyer goodness
for everyone! Also announced by Bandai was Summon Night: Twin Age for
the Nintendo DS. If you have ever played SUmmon Night 1 or 2 for the
Game Boy Micro, than you know what to expect in this title. You know to
expect an awesome action title with lots of weapon creation, summon
beast combo attacks, real time weapon change, giant enemy crabs, and
good amount of very heavenly swordfighting for about $29.99 US Dollars.
That is, if Atlus sees fit to translate it. Which they damn well better
see fit to do. Jam Sessions was delayed until September, which gives me
more time to work on my sweet guitar skills and gives UBIsoft more time
to iron out licensing issues with some of the song tabs featured in the
game. Sadly, this means I will not be able to rock out at this event.
Oh, the joy of that would be sweet. There must be an attempt at that
done with the Nintendo DS. One the PSP side of things: New Firmware is
coming that fixes a few bugs and such. R-Type Tactics was announced.
This will be a strategy game based on the R-Type universe. Does Bydos
approves? YES. In Europe, apparently, the PSP is getting VOIP
capability. Sadly, this will mean headsets and not side talking on the
PSP.
On the "anime coverage is returning" news, there will be A-Kon 18
coverage again this year. Hopefully, the internets will work this year
and I can update from the show. If not, then Sunday night, Monday will
be all sorts of coverages. This year, we have less official staff
working here. I will have the A-Kon page up Friday for everyones
perusal as well as a set schedule on what it entails, be there for
Squishy goodness, and more coverage when the embargo breaks.
05.14.2007 - "Speed Wreck"
- SquareEnix just announced that Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings,
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion's War, and Dragon Warrior Monsters:
Joker will be localized for release in the United States. Final Fantasy
Tactics is a specialized port of the PSOne game featuring extra content
for the PSP, Dragon Warrior Monsters: Joker is a DS entry into the
Dragon Warrior Monsters spin-off series, and Revenant Wings is a spin
off of the PS2 game Final Fantasy XII. On a side note: Etrian Odyssey
is out this week from Atlus and it is definately worth picking up.
Innocent Life: A Futuristic Harvest Moon is out in stores this week as
well and I really do not have an opinion on the idea of a "space age"
farming game. I do have an opinion on Taito Legends: Powered Up for the
PSP though! That opinion is that you should skip wasting your money on
it. Why should you not buy that game? Because of this simple equation:
No Bubble Bobble = NO SALE. There you go! Math made delicious and
bubble powered!
05.14.2007 "Fashionably Late" - New
non-news content takes so long sometimes and I miss so much news. So,
whatever. Here is the current update schedule for here. We will be
covering A-Kon this year with lots of in-depth articles by a new crew
of writers and it should be awesome and maybe a little perverted; so
look forward to it! In Japan, the Square Enix 2007 Party just wrapped
up. Here are all the things you need to know. Here is a list of the
games that have been announced that are new.
DS
1. Final Fantasy IV DS - Final Fantasy IV remade with polygons and such
in the style of Final Fantasy III. The game looks good and it contains
one of the better Final Fantasy stories. Good news for Rydia fans. The
next best thing is that it may end up being part of a "Finest Fantasy"
series of remakes. Which would include V, and VI. This is more of a
late Fall title for the Japanese and we probably will not be able to
wrap our hands around it until very early 2008.
PSP
1. Star Ocean 1 - A remake of the Play Station remake of the Super
Nintendo game. I can bet all the voice acting will be intact. I
certainly hope they translate it and bring it to the USA.
2. Star Ocean 2 - A remake of the Play Station sequel to the Play
Station remake of the Super Nintendo game. New cutscenes, voice acting,
and more. Nice to finally see SquareEnix doing something to support the
other portable in the market; but I have every intention of letting
these ones sit on the shelf for a few monthes so I can buy them at a
discount price. I waited on Gurumin and that is now $19.95. Which is
the price I consider the maority of PSP titles to be worth.
3. Dissidia: Final Fantasy - The title is a play on the word Dissidio
(Disagreement) and it has a bunch of Square Enix characters beating
each other up. The artwork for the game is being done by Nomura.
The handhelds are where it is located this time around.
PSP has SEVEN titles here - Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core, Star Ocean
1, Star Ocean 2, Final Fantasy Tactics ~ The Lions War, Dissidia: Final
Fantasy, Final Fantasy 1, Final Fantasy 2.
DS has EIGHT titles here - Dragon Quest IX, Final Fantasy Tactics A-2,
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles ~ Rings of Fate, Final Fantasy IV DS,
Itadaki Street DS, It's A Wonderful World, Final Fantasy XII: Revenant
Wings, and Dragon Quest Monsters ~ Joker.
They also announced that Parasite Eve 3 will be on cell phones. Similar
to what happened with Final Fantasy VII: Before Crisis, that really
neat 3D Devil May Cry Square Enix had at E3 in 2006. The problem
with cell phone games is that, while cute, they do not play well
because of no firm button standards on Cell Phones. Hopefully
SquareEnix will do the right thing and give some new Parasite Eve stuff
to the DS or the PSP. I mean, games like Deep Labyrinth made it over
from cellphone to DS. I see no reason for other titles to not make it
over. I other news, there was a Napolean Dynamite game announced.
Honestly, no one should care about that... unless it ends up as an
adventure game ala Monkey Island.
04.25.2007 - "Hide And Seek." -
A lot of catch up news to report today!
Let us run through this as quickly as possible. A quick note on the
Virgina Tech shootings: If more people bought and played handhelds
instead of bitching about liberal "Us & Them" bullshit, there would
be less school violence. See what happens when you grow up stupid? I
guess Cho is the perfect Democrat? All politics aside, the news on the
handheld scene is sweet. Dragon Warrior IX has been announced to have a
turn based fighting system instead of the previously assumed action
based fighting system. The enemies will be visible before you fight
them though. Which is pretty cool. Also cool, is the announcement that
the PSP game Legend of Heroes VI (Part 3) will be on two UMDs when it
is launched in Japan this June. This game and the next upcoming Hot
Shots Golf game for the PSP are the first PSP games which will require
more than one UMD. So now we will have longer PSP games that will still
hurt our hands with the PSP's crappy d-pad and buttons and better
graphics we won't be able to see properly because of the crappy
inactive screen. A redesign can not show up soon enough Sony.
Ace Attorney 3: Trial & Tribulations will be out in the USA on the
Nintendo DS in September. This may be Estragon and Vladmir's most
anticipated game EVER. I raise a mug of coffee in salute! Also on the
bench: Capcom will be porting their upcoming PS2 Harvey Birdman game to
the PSP. It promises to have a style similar to the Ace Attorney
series. SquareEnix has announced that the PSP ports of Final Fantasy 1
and 2 will be out in June and July in the USA respectively. They will
be priced at $29.99 too much. Sega announced Sonic Rush Adventure. It
promises to have the same style of awesome as Sonic Rush; but with some
added new story about pirates. As long as they get the same AWESOME
music style as the first one, then it wil be good to go. Seriously,
Sonic Rush had some of the best Sega music since Jet Grind Radio. Jam
Sessions -while already mentioned as coming here in June- was finally
confirmed as coming here in June. The game is a guitar program for the
DS that turns your DS into a full fledged variable guitar. Here is a YouTube link
of someone playing the theme to Urusei Yatsura on it. While you await
"No More Heroes," know this! "The Silver Case," an early game by
Grasshopper and Suda 51, is being remade for the Nintendo DS and is
also getting a sequel on the DS. This early graphic adventure will be
getting localized for the USA as well. Should be interesting. We do
sometimes update other content. Here is a heaping helping of stuff
I forgot to upload! Reviews will be in the next batch. The PSP game God
of War - Chains of Olympus was announced and you can order a special
edition demo of the game from the official site for it. The other day,
I was in Best Buy and I had my Micro, my DS and my PSP with me. It
kinda irritates me that Sony has finally put up demo units; but still
does not let PSP owners download demos. The DS does though and the
demos they have up are Hotel Dusk, a mini game from Lost In Blue 2,
Disney Meteos, and a few other things. Oh! Taiko Drum and "Turn It
Around" are coming to the DS in Japan and the USA respectively. Nice.
